Macrobert welcomes one of Britain’s leading dance choreographers in May

Michael Clark Company’s come, been and gone gives Scottish audiences the chance to experience the sold-out success again.

Michael Clark, widely regarded as one of Britain’s leading choreographers, is making his debut at Macrobert on 23 and 24 May with Come, Been and Gone. The two performances are part of the 2012 Scottish tour, stopping at Stirling, Aberdeen and Inverness only. Following sold out engagements in Edinburgh, Venice, London and Berlin amongst others, this is an opportunity for Scottish audiences to experience this critically acclaimed dance performance again.

Made primarily to the music of David Bowie, come, been and gone also embraces the work of key collaborators Lou Reed and Brian Eno, and touches on some of his influences including The Velvet Underground amongst others.”

‘Rock is my rock. It has been vital to me at a personal level; it has shaped me as an individual as well as an artist’ says Michael Clark, who chose to become a choreographer believing that actions speak louder than words. He creates work which combines his classical integrity with a more complex, contemporary sensibility, embracing virtue and vice, abandon and control, grace and embarrassment.

Clark is renowned for his legendary collaborations with bands, fashion designers and visual artists including Wire, BodyMap, Leigh Bowery, Trojan and Sarah Lucas. Clark’s work is unique in how his choreography seamlessly crosses the boundaries between the worlds of classical ballet, contemporary dance, fashion, music and visual art.

Come, Been and Gone features original lighting design by Clark’s long term collaborator, the filmmaker and lighting designer Charles Atlas, whose recent work away from the company includes a live video mix/music collaboration with Antony and the Johnsons.

Performers include Kate Coyne, winner of the Contemporary Female Spotlight Award at the 2008 National Dance Awards, the only professional awards ceremony in the UK dedicated to dance.
