Single review: You Me At Six – Reckless

It has been a pretty great year for Surrey based musicians You Me At Six. The band played their biggest UK tour to date, claimed Kerrang’s Best British Band award for the second consecutive year, and in two months time will play the Wembley Arena; the most colossal headline show of their careers so far.

This has all come on the back of their latest album Sinners Never Sleep, which drew critical acclaim for a matured sound featuring added riffs and a lot more rock than much of their previous work.

The record is a bold move away from the pop-punk feel that gained the group such a loyal following in the past, but the latest single to be released from the album, entitled Reckless, is one of the few tunes on the tracklist which fully embraces the fun feel of previous work.

With a bouncy backing beat and cool guitar riff, the fourth single from the band’s third studio album is an enjoyable listen, with the catchy chorus in particular sure to play on loop in your head from the moment you hear it.

The song fades into a progressively building verse with around a minute left to go, before belting back into the chorus that sees lead singer Josh Franceschi declare, “don’t hold your breath, I’m not losing sleep over you,” and restore the catchy atmosphere.

Overall, Reckless is an upbeat song that would not look out of place on either of the band’s two previous albums. The track will go down brilliantly with those already devoted to the band, but those looking for a heavier attitude will likely be more suited to the other tracks on Sinners Never Sleep.

You can buy the single online or in shops from October 22.
